Great Expectations

I was sharing this with someone this morning and Holy Spirit spoke to me to share it with you.

I gave a quote this morning from Madea. "Some people are meant to come into your life for a lifetime, some for only a season and you got to know which is which. And you're always messing up when you mix those seasonal people up with lifetime expectations."

I have had those kinds of friendships and been hurt. Or felt the hurt from the other side.

This doesn't have to do with just friendships either. It can be in any situation.
One time God spoke to me and a few people about something He was doing in our lives. We were so excited. We even had confirmations from God through other people. We decided to meet together to lay out the course. When we finally came together it was not good. We walked away from this meeting confused, irritated, disappointed beyond disappointed. In fact it almost stopped some of us from believing that God even spoke in the first place! Why? Our expectations. But God was gentle on us. He stayed the course. He knew we were out of line. And He allowed us to see it. We are back on His course now. His agenda...Not ours. We were taking His word and molding to our expectations and it hurt us. Now, we are walking in repentance and in His will. It feels so much better.

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Let your expectations line up with Him. If you have had expectations not met by God or someone else, then go to God. Ask Him to give you peace and let Him direct you. He will show you something.
There may be times that you were led to believe something from someone else and they let you down. That is not necessarily your fault. He may have you go share with them about your hurt. Forgive them. But don't just sit and let your disappointments rule you. Let the Peace that passes all understanding rule you.
